Setting up a strong Windows 7 login password can protect your computer files and folders from authorized users. Creating a Windows 7 password reset disk in advance can avoid the possible troubles if you forgot Windows 7 password in the future. And enabling account lcokout feature in Windows 7 can temporarily lock your PC if somebody tries to guess your password. Here's the how-to.
Have you ever worried that someone could figure out your password by trying different key combinations? If so, just enable the Account lockout, a security feature in the Group Policy system. It determines the number of minutes a locked out account remains locked out, after reaching the account lockout threshold of invalid logon attempts with a incorrect user name and/or password, before automatically becoming unlocked.
Account lockout can prevent your Windows password from being guessed by temporarily locking your computer when the password is entered incorrectly a couple of times. In the following steps, I'll set if I enter the wrong password 5 times, it will locks up my system for 30 minutes.
Step 1: Enter "secpol.msc" in the start search box and press Enter. It will bring up the Local Security Policy windows.
Step 2: Double-click Account Policies on the left and select Account Lockout Policy. You'll see three policies in the right hand pane.

Step 3: Right-click the Account lockout threshold policy and select Properties. On the coming up window, set the number of login attempts that you want Windows to allow before it locks the account, and then click OK to save setting. Here I set 5.

Step 4: Windows will prompt you to set suggested settings for Account lockout duration and the length of time to Reset account lockout counter. Here I use the default values of 30 minutes, so I just need to click OK. You can also change the values according to your needs.

That's all! Your account will be locked for 30 minutes if the password is continuously entered incorrectly for 5 times. This will prevent anyone from being able to repeatedly guess your Windows password, or at least make it take a lot longer.
